Volunteers Needed in Bradford

Abigail Housing, which provides accommodation for refugees in Leeds and destitute asylum seekers in Bradford, is looking to recruit new volunteers for a number of roles. they are:

Volunteer House Champion:  This role is to befriend and support residents in the properties within which they are accommodated.  Volunteer House Champions offer holistic support to residents, with current volunteers undertaking these roles in a different capacity in each of the properties.  We are currently seeking to recruit 4 people for 2 of our properties.  Volunteers work in pairs in this role, and will be matched together to prevent lone working.  This role could be undertaken on a fortnightly/monthly basis.

Gardening Volunteer(s):  This role would be suitable for an individual/group, who can lend some time with keeping garden/outside areas of properties clean and tidy.

Volunteer Interpreters:  We encourage individuals with lived experience (experts by experience) to get involved.  We are seeking individuals who could assist with interpreting in the following languages; Farsi, Kurdish, Tigrinya, Amharic and French.

Volunteer Fundraisers:  We are seeking individuals with a keen interest in fundraising.  A Volunteer Fundraiser for the project may assist in contacting local organisations, community groups, faith centres or local businesses to seek funding/donations and/or demonstrate confidence in going out into the local community to raise awareness of the work of the project and charity.  A fundraiser may also be interested in organising local fundraising events.

Volunteer Befriender(s):  We are seeking an individual(s) who has knowledge of the local area, and who can support residents with navigating support services and other places of interest within the city.  A Volunteer Befriender(s) could also assist with supporting residents to appointments and attending community activities.

DIY/Decorator/Maintenance Volunteer:  We are seeking individual(s) with DIY and decorating skills who could assist with low maintenance/decorating, DIY tasks that need completing in our 5 properties.

If you are interested in any of the above volunteering opportunities, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, St.Clair Brown on 07802723066 or email st.clair@abigailhousing.org.uk
